Things to do Around Manchester

Manchester, Vermont is not like anywhere else, a unique blend of small-town charm and cosmopolitan chic. Apple orchards, country stores, and family farms dot the surrounding landscape, while the historic downtown boasts outlet shopping and many restaurants.  The surrounding towns and villages are all unique and worth exploring.  In the summer and fall there are craft-fairs, antiques shows, and outdoor concerts on the Manchester town green.

A complete list of what’s going on can be found on manchestervermont.com

Those interested in outdoor activities can enjoy golf, horseback riding, biking, and walking. The Long Trail, which runs up the spine of the Green Mountains to the border of Canada, passes though Manchester and is easily accessible. The nearby Battenkill River offers kayaking, canoeing, and fly-fishing. During the colder months, snowshoeing, ice-skating, and cross-country skiing is on offer. For alpine skiing and snowboarding, Bromley and Stratton are a ten to twenty minute drive.

A Few of our Favorite Places:

Northshire Bookstore: One of New England’s premier independent bookshops, the Northshire has thousands of great titles available and amazing coffee to boot.

Dorset Quarry: The moment the weather begins to get warm, this abandoned marble quarry (which once supplied stone for the New York Public Library) becomes an impromptu swimming hole, attracting locals and tourists alike.

Equinox Trails: Those in need of a good walk can enjoy over 900 acres of woodlands and walking trails at the base of Mt. Equinox. There is a stunning lake not far from the trailhead, and paths suitable for all levels of experience.

Hildene: Designed as the Lincoln’s family home, this 24-room mansion is one of New England’s most stunning properties, with formal gardens, walking trails, and an observatory.

Manchester Farmers Market: This fantastic market happens every Thursday afternoon from May 29th-Oct 9th, with a variety of venders from all over the area selling fresh produce.

Dorset Farmer's Market - on Route 30 in neighboring Dorset every Sunday from 10-2 PM

Southern Vermont Arts Center: This is one of the area’s most popular cultural attractions, and features a great variety of work from sculpture to photographs, and modern art to live performances. Click Here for a full calendar of upcoming events.
